The Components of a Solar Power Kit

A “solar power kit” can be a number of things, but it is usually a kit that contains all of the necessary parts for a stand-alone photovaultaic-based solar panel power system. These kits can be used for a number of important functions, such as powering outdoor fountains, powering refrigerators, powering residential housing, and providing back up energy for commercial property.

In every solar power kit, you will find the following items at a minimum: a set of solar panels – flexible or hard – connecting cables and a control panel. This is the most basic setup and could only be used with a simple, direct-current application that can be continuously run during the day. If you needed a kit for alternating current applications or applications that need to be run during the night, you would have to purchase a more extensive kit.

One item you could add to make your system more flexible is a block of batteries. This will allow you to store the energy generated from your solar panels for later use. This still does not solve the alternating current problem, however, as the batteries will also store the energy in direct current; and will use that for applications.

In order to create alternating current, you must purchase a solar power kit that contains an inverter, which will hook up to your battery block – and will “invert” direct current into alternating current, which most high-power appliances use.

Once you've determined what you will need in your solar power kit, you will want to scout out prices at a number of different dealers.
