When to Purchase a Solar Power Inverter

You just finished constructing your new solar power system. You've got panels; you've got a battery block; you've got a control panel; and you've got all of the necessary connecting cables. Maybe you even splurged and purchased rotating or hydraulic panel platforms. But there's only one problem: you can't actually put any of this electricity you're generating to use until you have a solar power inverter.

Why is this? This is because solar panels generate electricity in the form of direct current – and most applications (especially bigger ones) simply cannot use direct current. They must use alternating current (AC), which the inverter will generate for you. Rather than putting your solar power inverter before the battery block, you will want to put it between the battery block and the appliance. This is because your batteries cannot hold electricity in alternating current.

One important thing to note about a solar power inverter is that energy will be lost in the process. The amount lost is almost directly dependent on the quality of inverter you purchase. If you buy a cheap one, you will lose a lot of power in the DC-AC conversion.

A good place to purchase an inverter is on Ebay. This is because people often use solar power kits, including a solar power inverter, when they are in temporary isolation. Or when a grid has not yet been extended to their house. The same is true for gas and diesel generators, which are often used under the same circumstances. When they move out of that temporary isolation or when they receive a grid connection, they will often sell off pieces or all of their stand-alone grid, including their solar power inverter. Some brands you may want to look out for on Ebay are “Watt Max Inverter,” “Nexxtech,” and “Stat Power.” Additionally, you may want to check out different car brands, such as Mazda, as they often sell inverters, too.
